Music. Recovery. Connection.
There’s always a song.
One that caught you at exactly the right moment. That said what you couldn’t say yourself. That made you feel less alone in the middle of something really hard.
I’ve always loved music. Every genre. Loud, quiet, spiritual, rhythmic — it doesn’t matter. There’s always something that gets you right where you are. And when I was going through my own recovery after my heart attack, music was never far away. Sometimes it was background noise that kept the silence at bay. Other times a lyric would land so hard it stopped me in my tracks.
This is the place for those songs. The ones that found you when you needed them most — in recovery, in loss, in the middle of something you weren’t sure you’d get through.
I’m starting it with mine — and I’ll keep adding as I go, because I listen deeply into lyrics and there’s always something that resonates.
This is only my first one. There will be more.
Learning to Walk Again — Foo Fighters
When I was in hospital with pneumonia, really struggling, my youngest son made me a playlist of Foo Fighter songs. We’re both big fans.
The song that hit me hardest was Learning to Walk Again. I don’t think I need to explain why. If you know it, you’ll understand. If you don’t — go and listen.
It broke me to tears. And somehow that helped.
Your Turn.
Is there a song that got you through something hard? A track that found you at exactly the right moment in your recovery — from whatever you’ve been through.
Drop it in the comments below. The song, the artist, and just one line about why it mattered.
That’s all. No pressure. No right or wrong answer.
Just music and the stories behind it.
